Social security provisions for prisoners on temporary release in Great Britain due to the coronavirus outbreak

New statutory instrument

New regulations have been issued in relation to social security provisions for prisoners on temporary release due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.

In force from 12 November 2020, the Social Security (Coronavirus) (Prisoners) Amendment Regulations 2020 (SI.No.1156/2020) amend the Social Security (Coronavirus) (Prisoners) Regulations 2020 (SI.No.409/2020) to provide that their expiry date is extended from eight months to fourteen months.

As a result, provisions in the principal regulations that enable individuals on temporary release from prison due to the outbreak of coronavirus in Great Britain to access means-tested benefits during the period of that release will remain in force until 12 May 2021.
