Enabling people in Northern Ireland to continue to be able to claim SSP where absence from work is related to Covid-19

New statutory rule

New legislation has been issued that enables people in Northern Ireland to continue to be able to claim statutory sick pay (SSP) where their absence from work is related to Covid-19.

Made on 25 August 2022, the Coronavirus Act 2020 (Extension of Provisions Relating to Statutory Sick Pay) (No.2) Order (Northern Ireland) 2022 (SR.No.205/2022) revokes and re-enacts the provisions of SR.No.151/2022 that extend the expiry date of section 44 of the Coronavirus Act 2020 by six months to 24 September 2022 to allow the payment of SSP when someone is sick or self-isolating from Covid-19 in support of current Public Health Guidance in Northern Ireland.

NB - the explanatory memorandum to the Order explains that the revoking and re-enacting was required as the previous order was not approved by the Northern Ireland Assembly within the statutory 40 day approval period.
