Pension credit and Tenerife!
I have a client who is UK citizen and her husband is Spanish.
They are in their late 60s and want to emigrate to Tenerife to be near his family.
Due to poor NI conts they currently receive an SRP of about £38 each, giving them about £150 in G pension credit.
Can anyone tell me if Passported income related benefits are applicable in Tenerife?
They are technically a EU state, but also have exceptions to the norm regarding their tax system and im not sure if any of that is relevant.
Sorry if the answer comes under the heading of “Bleedin obvious” its just I have no experience of how IR benefits apply abroad (if at all)
GPC is a special non-contributory benefit, therefore it cannot be exported under EU co-ordination rules. Which means it is only payable abroad if the terms of domestic legislation are met;
- for up to 13 weeks if absence is unlikely to exceed 52 weeks (i.e. absence can be for any reason)
- for up to 52 weeks if absence is for NHS or other hospital treatment
There are no other routes to it being payable.
Sorry.
Thanks for the reply. Greatly appreciated.
At least they may get their winter heating allowance!
Time for the client to check benefit availability in Tenerife then…...
