Contributory JSA or Pension?
Hi all
Can anyone tell me whether you claim contributory JSA if you are a female of 61years old and have already deferred your pension? (meets the contributory based criteria)
Lauren
No, once you hit state pensionable age you can’t claim JSA (s1 of the Jobseekers Act 1995). That is 65 for a man born before 1959 and 60 for a woman born before 1950. After those dates the state retirement age increases incrementally depending on your date of birth. For those dates see para1 of schedule 4 of the Pensions Act 1995.
Thanks Nevip. She was born 29/12/1950, would this count as ‘before’ 1950’s?
She reached state pension age on 6/9/11 so its a no-go.
Ok thanks for your help
