New regulations that, with effect from 1 October 2015, increase the National Minimum Wage to £6.70 per hour for workers aged 21 or over, £5.30 per hour for those aged 18 or over but not yet 21, £3.87 per hour for those aged under 18, £3.30 per hour for apprentices, and £5.35 per hour for those provided with accommodation.

New report - Held back by Debt - shows that people who were self-employed, on zero-hours contracts or on fixed-term contracts were twice as likely to experience a change in economic circumstances in the last year as those in more traditional, permanent jobs, and that these ‘income shocks’ need to be accompanied by more comprehensive and responsive safety nets to ensure that people can cope with life’s ups and downs.

New research from Centre for London finds that from October 2015 a London-specific Minimum Wage could be set somewhere between £7.05 and £8 an hour and, given that the new National Living Wage will begin at the lower end of that range, starting from £7.20 an hour in 2016, it should not lead to significant job loss in London.
