New regulations that amend the Insolvency Rules (Northern Ireland) 1991 to introduce a number of procedures which will make improvements in the administration of insolvencies aimed at providing a better service for both debtors and creditors.

Independent reports on response to freedom of information request revealing that, following abolition of council tax benefit, summonses for non-payment of council tax increased by 30 per cent in local authorities requiring minimum payments, whilst the increase was 9 per cent in local authorities that provided support for the full council tax bill.

Bankruptcy and Debt Advice (Scotland) Act introduces a suite of measures, including the Minimal Asset Process, which offers debt relief quickly and at less than half the cost of an application for bankruptcy under the previous equivalent scheme for those on low incomes.
