Really Interesting Universal Credit blog
For those who don’t read Paul Spicker’s very good blog, let me suggest that they read this one at least.
http://blog.spicker.uk/universal-credit-can-we-distinguish-disallowances-from-withdrawn-claims/
This highlights a crucial issue.
DWP must be able to provide a breakdown of what happened to those claims that don’t end up being paid!
The other issue for people who start work and therefore ‘abandon’ their UC claim in the sense that they just stop responding to letters asking for evidence or attendance at JCP, and their claim is then disallowed, then not only could they possibly be missing out on UC to which they were entitled - in particular housing costs, but also if they come out of work again after a short period, they will have to start the whole process again with a new claim, and wait a further 7 weeks to be paid.
