I wonder if anybody has dealt with a similar scenario :

EEA national came with parent when aged nearly 16 so missed out on GCSE due to language barrier

Is now aged 21 and is in receipt of JSA, she has followed the language courses that the Job Centre and work programmes send her to which seem to have had no formal qualifications attached to them

She may well be ready to enter GCSE English as second language and is going for assessment but states that in the past she has already been warned by JSA that she would lose benefit entitlement if she joins a college course

The local college runs that course as part time but combination of day and evening class
actual tuition is about 5 hours a week

I would have thought that there is a strong case to argue that this course can improve employability considerably and as part-time availability is not really restricted but, seem to remember that there was an issue if the person already had booked the exam

Just hoped there was some guidance in view of the requirement of EEA nationals to speak English or also that there is precedence of some personal advisers actually referring claimants to the GCSE courses?

As always , thank you all for help
