Hi just been told by a client that Job Centre has told her that when her youngest child is 3 she has to claim JSA. As far as i knew it was 5. Has anyone else heard this??

Do you think they’re getting confused about the requirement for single parents to attend work-focused interviews?

As far as I am aware, the age of the child remains at 5 years for the requirement to actually move from IS to JSA.

hi carolyn -

you are right - it’s definitely five - and even that only came in from 21 May 2012 -

here’s link to DMG Memo 23/12 which sets it all out -

I think, as Paul says, this is ‘Keeping in touch with the labour market’ which is one of the conditionality groups.
