Government issues new Homes for Ukraine guidance to help people find a sponsor in the UK

'Recognised Provider' organisations listed by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities can also help UK citizens become sponsors

The government has issued new guidance to help people find a sponsor in the UK under the Homes for Ukraine scheme.

Further to recent reports that the scheme has been designed to fail in order to limit numbers entering the UK, the new guidance from the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) contains a list of voluntary and community sector organisations running schemes which provide support for and help to match people coming from Ukraine with sponsors in the UK

The guidance advises that the organisations - Citizens UK, Refugees at Home, Reset, and World Jewish Relief - can help people find a sponsor and provide more information about what it’s like to be sponsored in the UK, adding that -

'At the moment, organisations may have limited capacity to take on new guests from Ukraine, but this will change over the coming weeks. We expect this list to grow over time and encourage you to check it regularly. We also recommend that you visit charities’ websites for helpful guidance and other types of information and support.'

In addition, the DLUHC confirms that the same four organisations are 'Recognised Providers' that can help UK citizens become sponsors.

NB - the government has also issued new guidance today that -

'... outlines information for voluntary and community sector organisations looking to responsibly facilitate matches between sponsors and guests as part of the Homes for Ukraine scheme.'

Update (8 May 2022) - there are reports today that the government is scrambling to rehouse hundreds of Ukrainians granted visas under the Homes for Ukraine scheme because the people they were supposed to stay with have been deemed unsuitable.
