Guidance required to verify child element?

Hello - does anyone happen to have a link for the list of types of evidence possibly accepted by the Jobcentre to verify a child, in order to put the child element into payment?

One of our clients has gone two months without this for her two children (they are refugees, don’t have BRP cards yet but have provided other evidence of the children’s existence) and we’ll be challenging this, but cannot find the (non-exhaustive?) list of types of evidence. Will also flag to CPAG’s EWS also.

I’d start with UC guidance which you can access on the Rightsnet universal credit guidance page.

Have you seen the Additional amount for children guidance? Most of it concerns exceptions to the two-child limit but do scroll down to page 10, sub-heading: Verifying a child or qualifying young person’s details

It gives some examples of “acceptable evidence”

Can I ask what evidence has so far been provided for their existence which DWP are presumably refusing to accept? Work in this benefit area so interested to know what DWP are not allowing, thanks.

Slow child verification was raised in today’s Move to UC stakeholder meeting too - DWP to come back to attendees confirming what evidence is required. Happy to feedback on here once an answer is received.

I second @NeverSayNo - always good to know what’s happening in practice as well as what the rules and guidance say!

Notes from the Move to UC meeting will be up shortly on our DWP stakeholder meeting updates page.
