One minute, everything’s fine ...
Just came across these must-read blog pieces from Ames Taylor, Debt Adviser and Chair of the Greater Manchester Money Advice Group ...
Don’t Get a Hernia: “One minute, everything’s fine; you have a job, a girlfriend, a social life, and plans. Everyone knows you’re a good bloke, you work hard and you enjoy the craic ... Then came the hernia ...”
The Continuing Saga of JD: The Mystery of the Missing Deed: “I’d be embarassed for them, if I wasn’t so angry that the fate of people’s lives and homes lies in the hands of such a poorly administered system. It’s atrocious ...”
Shawn, this should surely come with a health and safety warning!
You want to weep with the frustrations of it all :(
Full marks to Ames: it’s so well-written and something that everyone should read.
Thank you very much!
And, tell me about it…this case has aged me!

Really worthy of a Ken Loach vignette!
We’re a tiny second tier agency and every now and again each of us will stop and think - what would have happened to this person we (indirectly) and their care manager or support worker (directly) supported if we weren’t there. And then we think of all the people out there who don’t have any support or don’t know it exists or how to find it. And then we take a deep breath and carry on.
All of the above! Thanks Ames its a great re-affirmation of what advocacy is about!!!!
We need a like button on this thread ❤️
Brilliant ... now in the Guardian:
