DWP responds to FOI re Two Child Limit guidance

Thanks to Carri at CPAG for asking DWP to:

“Please disclose all internal guidance, instructions and training materials concerning:
-the application of the two-child limit when calculating universal credit awards, and
-the application of the multiple birth exception when calculating universal credit awards.

Where processes are automated rather than being carried out manually, please disclose materials that describe these automated processes.” See the FOI on whatdotheyknow.com

I’ve just seen their response from last week, and thought the materials were worth sharing here. As well as the latest UC guidance (which is also on Rightsnet) Additional amount for children, they provided a Child verification spotlight and some work coach training materials.

To me, none of these docs set out:
- what evidence claimants should be asked for to demonstrate an exception to the two child limit applies to them
- what steps the work coach takes to confirm whether or not an exception applies in a claim
- whether any of it is automated (does the work coach just put in all the children and the computer does the rest? is the work coach prompted with Qs about exceptions?)
