I am getting conflicting advice from both my CPAG and Disability Rights Handbook with regard to IB being disregarded from Savings Credit calculation. CPAG and PC state that it is disregarded in the means test which in the case of my client gives a nil claim due to level of income. Is IB disregared from SC? I would appreciate any advice.

IB is disregarded as “qualifying income” for savings credit purposes.

I would hope that this is not too unclear from the Disability Rights Handbook -

page 203 current edition -

“Calculating your savings credit ...

‘qualifying income’

This is your total income used to calculate guarantee credit but excluding working tax credit, incapacity benefit, contributory employment and support allowance, contribution-based jobseeker’s allowance, severe disablement allowance, maternity allowance or maintenance payments made by a spouse/civil partner or former spouse/civil partner.”
