Proof of NINo
This is an interesting iteration of our wonderful world.
Now we’ve got UC in our lives people aren’t deluged with correspondence with their NINo on it any more.
How would you get proof of your NINo?
One of our local housing providers requires the NINo before people can set up an account to bid for properties.
If client can set up a Personal Tax Account online (https://www.gov.uk/personal-tax-account) there is a ‘confirmation of NINO’ letter available to save/print there.
Various options here: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/national-insurance-get-your-national-insurance-number-in-writing-ca5403
Otherwise, payslips, anything tax or benefit related or that card they give you when you’re 17. If all else fails, then use a dummy NINO and give the housing provider a ring.
The software behind many housing application systems starts with a requirement that you input your NINO which effectively functions as a unique identifier, however the use of NINOs for this purpose is deprecated for reasons not dissimilar to those discussed here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Erp8IAUouus - I think this is why there has been a specific effort to eliminate them from UC.

I definitely think linking to CGP Grey during the work day should be contrary to the rules of this forum! I’ve not got time to go down the rabbit hole that his videos rapidly become! ;-)
