Is there any easy way of finding out in advance whether a property is classified as supported accommodation or not (re whether it will be accepted for UC housing element or require an HB application). Am not clear whether a ‘sheltered’ housing property will fall to be treated as supported accommodation or not - I suspect it varies.

You could do worse than just asking the landlord directly how their benefit-receiving tenants pay the rent. In theory they ought to know. Or you could ask someone at the HB department.

In theory, of course, whether the tenancy constitutes supported accommodation or not needs to be determined on the facts of the case - in practice, the local authority will have an awareness of which properties have already been established to meet the definition.

Thanks Elliot. I did ring the HB department and they didn’t have a list! (Outside my normal area - - not Bristol).

Trying to contact the landlord seems like a good idea.
