Hi,

I have a tenant who has just succeeded to her father’s tenancy after his death.  She is getting an 8 week run of carers allowance and income support however she needs to make a claim for the rent.
We are now in FULL service area of UC.
I believe she needs to make a claim for UC housing costs only and do a change of circs after the 8 weeks.  Has anyone come across this particular scenario before who can offer some advice?
Thank you

Haven’t dealt with this exact situation, but in my experience it’s not possible to make a claim for only one UC element. If your tenant claims UC then she’s in the UC system, she can’t just claim part of it.

If she does claim UC, she will lose the IS but her CA should continue until the run on ends. Any money paid by CA will be deducted from UC award.
