Individual insolvencies in 2015 down 19 per cent compared to 2014

New statistics from the Insolvency Service report that change was mainly driven by a 23 per cent decrease in individual voluntary arrangements - however there was also a 22 per cent decrease in bankruptcies and a 9 per cent decrease in debt relief orders.

Personal insolvencies in Scotland have dropped 11 per cent on the same period a year ago

New figures from Accountant in Bankruptcy also show that the number of new debt payment programmes approved under the Debt Arrangement Scheme increased 13.4 per cent to 517 this quarter after several quarters of decline.

HMRC power to secure payment of debts directly from debtors’ bank and building society accounts


New regulations issued that specify the circumstances in which a financial institution is permitted to impose a charge on an account holder in respect of administrative costs it has incurred in carrying out any obligation required of it under the direct recovery of debt process, and the maximum charge which it may impose.

Government responds to consultation on freezing the student loan repayment threshold

Credit card companies fail to intervene to support customers who make minimum payments
