Families may be paying too much for social care, says Local Government Ombudsman

In a new report, which looks at ‘top-up fees’ paid by families for their relatives’ care, the Ombudsman asks if families are paying more than they need to because they have not been given comprehensive information about the costs of care available in their area.

Home visits to elderly people should last for at least half an hour

New guidelines from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence says that home care workers should make sure their support focuses on what people can or would like to do rather than a 'one size fits all' service, for example, if a person can still feed themselves then they should be supported to do this rather than being spoon-fed.

Self-directed Support (Direct Payments) (Scotland) Amendment Regulations 2015

New statutory instrument amends the Self-directed Support (Direct Payments) (Scotland) Regulations 2014 so as to enable East Renfrewshire Council and Moray Council to make direct payments to persons for residential accommodation for a period of more than four consecutive weeks in any period of 12 months.
