Are there any limits on the recovery, and rate of recovery, of rent arrears (not OP HB) from HB?  These arose durig a period of employment when there was no HB entitlement.

The last post is right this is unlawful.

Sadly, transfering a customers rent arrears to a HB overpayment, so that the govt foots the immediate bill, not the LA, is unlawful…..dam good wheeeze though….would do wonders for rent collection figures.

So I can only see this being an issue if the arrears are owed to someone else.  In that case, as I say I cannot see anything affecting HB that is equivalent to the Claims and Payment Regs.

It could also be that the claimant is a former Council tenant and owes the arrears on their former home.  The deductions are then from hb on their current (and presumably) privately rented accommodation.  Though again, I cannot see that this has any basis in the regs.
