UC and apprenticeships
Just a quick query re the gateway conditions for UC.
The UC FAQ (and the commencement order) states that claimants must not be “in education or on a training course of any kind”.
Would this include an apprentice?

There’s a useful summary of apprenticeshps at:
https://www.yourchamber.org.uk/business-support/people/lowdown-on-apprenticeships/
which discusses contracts of apprenticeship and the more recent modern apprenticeships.
“A key feature of contracts of apprenticeship is that training is regarded as the primary purpose of the arrangement with the work performed by the apprentice being regarded as secondary.”
“Modern apprenticeships were introduced by the conservative government in 1994. They are tripartite agreements involving the employer, the apprentice and a third party training provider.”
Even if DWP decided that an apprentice was not in training , the gateway earnings limits would still apply.
