Supported Lodgings Allowance and hosts’s UC

Hail all.

I’m trying to check the effects of a Supported Lodgings Allowance on the host’s UC and my brain has already fused (so early in the week)

The details I can find are - carers receive a total of £215 which is made of £190 ‘support element’ paid by the county council, and £25 board paid from the young person’s weekly allowance.

I can’t find anything dealing with UC and SL payments. Lots of stuff on SL, but from 2008 etc. One source even refers to Family Credit!

Any help?

Taking a broad view. Income from lodgers is disregarded in entirety for UC isn’t it?

I don’t recall a SLA being included in the list of income for UC purposes, and it’s not taxable below £7500.

At worst you’ve got income from the balance above £7500 that’s exempt via the rent a room scheme. That’d be £198 a month.

However is it taxable under
(a)amounts that are treated as earnings under Chapters 2 to 11 of Part 3 of ITEPA (the benefits code); and
(b)amounts that are exempt from income tax under Part 4 of ITEPA.
