Online PIP claims
Apologies for being clueless here. Our Deputyship team was sent a link to claim PIP online. That takes you to an online version of the PIP2. There was no deadline mentioned for submission.
This is the first we’ve come across. When is the claim made?
The claim has already been made as in order to get the PIP2 you have to have made a claim and completed a PIP1. The PIP1 is typically done over the phone when you ring the PIP new claim line so you don’t often see a paper form (though they do exist). So I’m not entirely sure what you mean by “when is the claim made”?
Also, by memory, the deadline to return the online PIP2 is a month but the login only works for seven days so if it expires you have to ring up for them reset it.
Thanks. No PIP1 has ever been completed. The Deputies requested a paper PIP1 so they could attach the BF56 form to it. They were sent the link. They did not complete a PIP1 over the phone at the time.
Unless something has changed I was under the impression that the online PIP 2 was for claimants rather than 3rd parties.
Whilst the deadline is a month the usual flexibilities apply and can be obtained in the usual way. On the DWP side of things a process was clearly outlined for chasing up those claimants who did not look like they were going to meet the deadline.
I’ve no idea why the Deps were sent it. Perhaps PIP thought they were being helpful. They’ve given a long extension now anyway, fingers crossed they find a claim to attach it to once it’s submitted.
Hi Rosie. In case of interest (though still not clear what’s happened in this case): https://askcpag.org.uk/content/207837/pip-digital-forms-and-online-claims
Some of that seems out of date to me. PIP have been very clear that the date of claim is the date of the call for example.
You’re right that during the pilot (private beta) phase of Apply for PIP, the date of the initial phone call will be the date of claim. As you say, DWP has confirmed as much - regrettably that was just after this article went to press.
However, DWP has also said that once Apply for PIP is in its public beta stage, the date of claim will be the date that the PIP1 part of the online form is completed. See footnote 6 in the article.

Thanks - that’s interesting. I think it was the e-PIP form which mirrors the paper version so PIP must somehow have a claim even though none of the Deps think they made one.

Ah yes, the latter makes sense and is no different to the phone process in essence.
Just wanted to make you aware: if you call PIP new claims line, with your client on the line (conference call) or your client sitting in your office, but you are making the call- your client will be issued with a paper form, rather than digital one.
I had discussion today with a call handler, who confirmed this with her supervisor.
Normally if a claim is made (registered) by a third party, like LPA or appointee, the system issues paper form.
However, for some reason this is now also applied to a standard garden variety reps/advisers/family member who are simply helping client to make the call. They are being seen as a third party, so no e-PIP.
Because I find online version so much easier regarding remote support and form-filling, I was ready to challenge this nonsense, but with vulnerable client on the phone, I decided to come and post here.
Maybe we could get a clarification from DWP?
DWP were very clear about this from day one and I believe I or someone else has posted this on here previously.
Only the claimant can get the digital form.
Plans for third parties are way down the line and likely to fall behind getting both PIP 1 and PIP 2 digital processes working robustly for claimants.
Thank you Mike, so does it mean someone helping the client to make a call, but not submitting on their behalf, would be rightly classed as a third party?
Yes, they were very clear from day one that the digital process is for unrepresented claimants and not anyone else at all at this point. The offer of the digital process is only made to claimants acting on their own.
OK, thank you for clarifying
