Appeal against conviction on two counts of unlawful eviction
A criminal case, so not one we’d normally cover, but thought it might be of interest/use:
... the appellant appeals against her conviction on two counts of unlawful eviction contrary to s.1(2) of the Protection from Eviction Act 1977 (the 1977 Act) and two counts of unlawful harassment contrary to s.1(3A) of that Act. Those convictions were on 23 May 2022 in the Crown Court at Chelmsford following a trial.
Wu v Chelmsford City Council [2023] EWCA Crim 338 (30 March 2023)
Summary via NearlyLegal: Illegal eviction – attempted or accomplished?
Of course including the line which anyone working in housing will have seen coming a mile away:
Police officers attended and told her that the issue was a civil matter and then left.
It is good to see a case like this being prosecuted.
Police officers attended and told her that the issue was a civil matter and then left.
.
Exactly that happened to one of ours only a few days ago.
