Universal Credit request to include old style ESA letter
It’s from https://www.housingsystems.co.uk/ (of this parish…)
I’ve tried putting something similar direct on the Journal with references to the law and guidance. It worked in as much as they accept the claimant is entitled to the LCW/LCWRA element from the start of the claim but it’s still not in payment.
On the one hand the case manager says they have to wait to get the information from ESA and have no shared systems from which they can get this; on the other they are deducting an amount equivalent to contribution based ESA with a support component from his UC. I’ve asked them to explain how they know to do this if they’ve had no information from ESA - no answer to date.
We’ve been told by DWP recently that since June there is now a special unit in Hackney who are processing these cases, to try and make sure the LCWRA element is paid from the first AP. Don’t think we’ve seen a case since then to check if it’s working properly.

It hasn’t for this client. He’s already had 2 payments without it. Think it will become a complaint and the EA will be mentioned as this only affects claimants who are sick and may well come within the definition of disability and leaving them £328 a month down for up to 3 months is not good enough.
