Transfering properties within Full Service
Hi all,
Could someone clear up this scenario please.
A tenant who is on say ESA & Housing Benefit in a Full Service area that transfers within the borough to a different property with a different rent amount. Would this trigger a new claim for UC?
Thanks

I think they stay as they are - it’s not a new claim so doesn’t trigger UC. Only a change of circs that would require a new claim for a legacy benefit sets UC off…
It shouldn’t. It’s only changes that would require a new claim that would trigger the new UC claim. A change of address within the Local Authorities area should be a change of circs.
I can’t help wondering whether a move from social to private sector or vice versa might be enough to require a new claim but I’ve not had time to look it up.
I am informed that in some LAs that’s not being applied as they treat a move as a new claim. That shouldn’t happen but it has.
In my view it doesn’t, but if there is any sort of gap between the tenancy end and start dates. You might get a problem.
