UC caseload - 100,000 by May?
Just over 85,000 people have claimed UC since 2013, but current caseload (measured at March) is only 46,920. It was 40,100 in February.
HMG claimed that the number of claimants would be 100,000 by May

My word, they’re going to have to work hard to get ‘em in, aren’t they?
Thank you very much for that Andrew - I have added a note to the story to that effect to highlight it :)
The roll out makes snail racing look like Formula one (yawn).
It was day one here today, I wonder how many claims were made? Expect to seen a photo op on the local news tonight of the PM looking over the shoulder of some poor unfortunate trying to make their UC claim on line at Witney Jobcentre and telling us how It will transform their life etc. (bigger yawn).
It’ll be us soon Peter, so do please keep us posted on any interesting developments.., and love the snail/Formula One analogy by the way…
April figure was 54,000.
I suppose ‘Never apologize, never explain, it’s a sign of weakness’ will be the operative maxim.
It is now a month since UC started in the eastern part of the East Sussex. I have just sent out a letter advising someone to make a claim for UC, the first such advice for our project. We have yet to be asked for advice by a UC claimant.
We were sure that UC cases would be a trickle rather than a flood, but they’re not even a dripping tap yet.
They don’t want to faucet.
[I resign!]
Apparently there are currently about 200 live claims on the digital service in Sutton, yet they plan to be only using the digital service for new claims from May 2016 (from UC update at operational stakeholders). Current plan for rollout of digital is to be in 7 part post-codes by 4 November 2015 - http://www.rightsnet.org.uk/welfare-rights/news/item/roll-out-of-the-universal-credit-digital-service2 - so there’s going to have to be a major acceleration after November…
....but is anyone steering….?
....but is anyone steering….?
Can one steer a snail? - see #2 above - watching IDS fall into a beer trap might entertain!
This hasn’t hit the UK print media yet but it probably will - ‘record’ UC applications. It’s easy to set a ‘record’ from a low-to-nonexistent base.
The sheer dishonesty of the claims reported here has me profoundly…..depressed I’m afraid.
There may be many new applications…..doesn’t mean they will eventually be processed or paid…...many applicants should probably be claiming other benefits but have been ‘advised’ to try their hand at UC - it would be very interesting to see the figures on how many new UC applicants have actually been re-directed to apply for other benefits.
Attempting to go through the process with the ‘dummy details’ supplied by DWP (their words not mine!) has resulted in failure every single time….. the UC system suddenly becomes unavailable…....it would appear that they only want ‘real’ applicants trying to navigate the system….......
Or maybe its me…...??
And the latest from Priti Patel - http://www.rightsnet.org.uk/welfare-rights/news/item/universal-credit-programme-has-hit-or-is-on-target-to-achieve-all-of-the-mi - apparently UC programme has hit all its targets…we must be mistaken…

The cheeky so-and so’s are claiming it as a success!!! DWP brass neck - wow!!!
Latest from Priti Patel in written answer yesterday - legacy benefits gone by June 2018 and majority of migration by 2020 ‘with the exception of some tax credit and employment service allowance claims which would be migrated thereafter.’
what is employment service allowance?
that’s obviously what priti calls it! I cut and pasted that without even noticing it :)
- To ask the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions, pursuant to the Answer of 16 September 2015 to Question 10000, whether the milestone set in autumn 2014 of reaching 100,000 universal credit claims by May 2015 was achieved ...
- The Universal Credit programme has hit, or is on target to achieve, all of the milestones ...
“You said you’d tidy your room yesterday! Why didn’t you do it?”
“Jeez mum, I’m doing it *now*, ok? .. god…”
nice to know Priti knows her arse from her elbow
