More criticism of the rollout of UC in the offing
The Financial Times reports today that the National Audit Office is expected to deliver a highly critical assessment when it reports in the autumn.
The FT also understands that Robert Devereux, permanent secretary and the department’s senior civil servant, has come under pressure over delivery of the reforms. ‘One friend said Mr Devereux feared that he was being “scapegoated” for the slow progress.’ However a person close to Iain Duncan Smith, the work and pensions secretary, said it was “categorically untrue” that there were any plans for Mr Devereux to move.
