Any word of revised legislation?
Wed 22-Jun-05 08:11 AM

HB Regs were to be revised re appeal rights, and overpayment recovery. So far I have seen nothing. Does anyone know what stage this is now at?

The last I heard was that the relevant amendments were to to be tabled, but the general election intervened, so they are now on hold. As the DWP has undertkaen only to amend the HB Regs twice a year (spring and autumn) it looks as if we'll have to wait until the autumn (at least).

The April 2005 issue of the DWP HB Direct newsletter identified then key HB reforms, most of which were to take effect from April 2006.

In addition, the government is inviting comments on its proposed Housing Benefit Bill.

See the following rightsnet news stories for summaries of the above -

Housing benefit changes from 2006: Removing anomalies & simplifying the rules (04 April, 2005)

Housing Benefit Bill: Further detail following the Queen\'s Speech (19 May, 2005)

However, neither 'appeal rights' or 'overpayment recovery' have recently been highlighted as specific areas for reform.
