Non-Dependant Deductions
Fri 08-Apr-05 09:38 AM

Can someone please help to clarify the position with regard to non-dependant charges from April?
I know that if the non dep is in receipt of Pension Credit that there is no charge.
Is there are a charge if the claimant is on Pension Credit and the non-dep is working? I know the rules about AA and DLA(care).

Yes normal rates of deduction apply BUT if a non-dep moves in with anyone over 65 no deduction is made for the first 6 months of the non-dep's residence. This applies to each non-dep who moves in and there are no linking rules - so if a non-dep moves out and another (or even the same one) moves in the 6 months starts up again.

Also if the non-dep's circumstances change such that a higher rate of deduction applies, that increased deduction is similarly deferred for 6 months.
