LHA Rates 23-24
Just noticed that Jeremy Hunt stated the following in the debate following the Autumn Statement:
Local housing allowance rates for 2023-24 will be maintained at the elevated rates agreed for 2020-21.
So that sounds like no increase at all next year.
Historical context of 30% LHA rates: something that was originally conceived as quite a sharp cut back in 2011 can now be spun as “elevated”.
I’m so old, I can remember when LHA rates were pinned to the 50% median. Hard to believe that was a thing.

and you could keep the difference if your rent was lower!

Gosh yes, how different times were.
So is the LHA being kept to the same figure in cash terms, or in terms of being 30% of the median rent? If in cash terms there have been quite a few rent rises recently and I can’t see it covering anyone’s rent, even for the most squalid accommodation
‘I can also confirm that the LHA rates for 2023/2024 will be maintained in cash terms at the elevated rates agreed for 2020/2021.’
