Letter from Tax Credits about claiming as single person
A client has had a letter from Tax Credits telling her that she should be claiming as a single person. It says that if you’re claiming correctly you don’t need to do anything. She is claiming correctly as a single person, but this letter has got her worried.
Has anyone else seen these letters or heard anything about why they’re being sent out?
Hi Helen
This letter (or one similar to it) has been used by HMRC for quite a few years to try and get people to think about whether their single claim is correct. Does it actually say they have information that suggests she should be claiming as a single person or is it just telling her to think about?
She has a single claim. It seems to just be for information. I’ve not seen the letter, but the client hasn’t said that it refers to them having any particular information.
In that case, it sounds like the generic letter and they do send quite a few out each year and have done for a number of years.
Just seen a couple in the last week too…
