Benefits whilst in Amsterdam
Hello,
Can anyone point me in the direction of a simple explanatory leaflet, or the like that describes what benefits a person might continue to get, and for how long, while he is in Amsterdam for 26 weeks. He intends coming home. Currently getting Middle Rare Care and Lower Rate Mobility components to DLA, Incapacity Benefit with top up of IS including the SDP and maximum Housing & Council Tax Benefit. There is NO question of satisfying any of the helpful stuff surrounding medical treatment abroad, the stay is purely meant as a break
Thank you.
On specifically the HB/CTB side, your client will not be entitled to HB/CTB as there is no intention to return to the property (as his home) within 13 weeks. Just for clarity, he won’t even get upto 13 weeks HB/CTB - it will be zero for the whole 26 weeks. For completeness, your client is under a duty to notify the LA of this absence.
Thank you both, most helpful. The H & CTB information is a bit grim though. I assume that Income Support will not be payable for any of the period either?
Happy New Year.
Patrick.
You assume correctly. Your client may be able to receive IS for the first 4 weeks in certain circumstances; see CPAG Welfare Benefits Handbook page 1396.
