Using the local JC address as a care of
Boating stuff…
Is it written anywhere in guidance that claimants can use the local JC as a care of address?
It’s been a given for so long I’ve forgotten and I’m cursing myself now. I am reassured, though, that the hive mind has a long memory…
Daphne I might need you to ask stakeholders to remind an troublesome JC that this is still a thing, assuming it is.
Dan I’ve seen stuff in the past too regarding ‘using the local JC address as a care of ’ and etc etc - different scenario but see link and more pertinently the last bit of the copy and paste.
Alternatively, some local CA’s will facilitate clients as a post restante address. We do on a casual basis.
‘Address
If the claimant doesn’t have a permanent address, there are a number of options
available to them. They can use a care of address, like the address of a family member
or trusted friend.
If they are staying at a hostel, they can use the hostel address or, in exceptional
circumstances, they can use their local jobcentre address.
If a claimant decides to use their local jobcentre as their postal address, they must be
advised that their correspondence can be opened by DWP staff’.
The only concrete thing in guidance seem to be the same as the other reply, that homeless customers can use a Job centre as an address in exceptional circumstances- I guess that gives DWP the discretion to decide what is exceptional circumstances.
I’m guessing Dan you have both these covered but posting these for wider interest and discussion https://www.postoffice.co.uk/mail/poste-restante and http://www.boatmail.co.uk/poste-restante-mail-pick-up-points.html
