War Pension query
I have had an enquiry regarding a War Pension (or service pension, client unsure)
The clients father who was in receipt of some kind of war pension passed away several years ago.
The client reckons he is entitled to his late fathers pension. The client is a grown up adult and i believe that only dependant children or surviving widows/widowers have any claim on such pensions.
My question is this : are there any circumstances where the client would possibly have any entitlement to his late fathers pension. The client is on means tested benefits so any income would simply reduce other IR benefits (unless disregarded?)
Any thoughts would be appreciated
There’s nothing that I can think of that a grown up child can claim. The only Survivors Benefit might be;
War Widow(er)’s Pension (cause of death originated from service before 6/4/05)
With additional criteria, a War Widows or Widowers Pension may be awarded to a person who was living as spouse or living as civil partner.
You could try calling the Veterans Agency on 0800 169 2277.
I’ve always found them very helpful.
Thanks for that. I have tried that number for a week and all i get is “try another time as we are too busy to take your call”
I was just looking for any exceptions but I cant find any either.
Thanks
