Hi, I am sure it was discussed here before but I can only find very old posts, like from 2014…

We have been asking UC for MRN since January 2024. I know that sometimes they take their time, but we’ve had no acknowledgment, no message saying it is with a DM etc- nothing, zilch.

I am vaguely aware that we could ask the FtT to issue a direction notice to DWP to produce MRN. Is that right? If so, would anyone kindly share a template or draft?

I have evidence in form of UC Journal entries, if it helps.

Hi Jo

It works really well. I just do a normal online SSCS1. You get to a section where they ask why you don’t have an MRN and I then put whatever’s happening in the case in very basic terms. If it’s an online UC claim, you can include reference to the failed journal messages.

Once it gets lodged, a request from the tribunal follows in a couple of weeks, asking the client whether they’ve asked for an MR, if so when and if DWP have failed to respond. DWP are also asked for whether they’ve responded. I tend to then effectively repeat what I put in the SSCS1 and it goes to tribunal and/or DWP are prompted to issue an MRN.
