PIP Renewals
A former cl. has had a letter to say that her PIP is due to run out in the fairly near future. She has not however been sent a renewal form and has had to ring and get one.
I must admit that I thought PIPs just sent out renewal forms- has this changed?
I think there has always been a small proportion of claims where claimants are expected to know that they need to request forms prior to their claim ending. It has happened to claimants I’ve worked with periodically and I’ve never been able to work out why it has happened to the people it has.
At one time the DWP had a line that it was because an award had been made at tribunal but this was never true of all of the cases I’ve seen and not all the cases where a tribunal had been involved meant that a claimant had to request this at renewal.
At least they’ve sent a letter - this wasn’t true of all the cases I saw. Not seen this for a while - maybe it’s a reawakening of someone’s understanding somewhere
I was a little worried that it might have been a scam, another way of getting bank account details. I have seen a picture of the letter and is is clearly genuine with the right telephone number etc.
Its not just PIP its happening with, I have had a call today from a distraught mother that her child’s DLA has stopped despite still having an outstanding MR and no review form sent out prior to end of claim. She only realised when her carers allowance wasn’t paid. DWP say they can see the MR is on their system but haven’t acted yet and the acknowledged they failed to send out the renewal form. Still not reinstated her the DLA whilst they rectify the matter though.
