Migrating claimants
So now the fun starts
What happens if someone claims UC in the pilot area and then relocates for whatever reason to another area of the country that is not a pilot area?
As I understand it there is a lobster pot process with UC, ie once claimed, you cannot go back onto JSA
Yes, unless you move to Northern Ireland.
Yes, unless you move to Northern Ireland.
Migration of a different sort then…. was that intentional Gareth?
I’m not that bright Martin.
As UC starts in NI at a different time, and in a different legislative environment, if someone turns up in NI on April 30th they’ll get put on JSA (or whatever). My best guess is that if they return to Ashton Under Lyne the following week they’ll be an existing JSA claim and stay on it.
Do we know yet just how the lobster pot will work (even during the Pathfinder)? Couldn’t it depend on the wording of the relevant commencement order (and any savings) ? Certainly the TP regs seem to anticipate some claimants reverting to an “existing benefit” (if only temporarily).
According to a well-known encyclopedia:-
“One study indicated that lobster traps are very inefficient and allow almost all lobsters to escape.”
