Intermediaries for child benefit Wed 30-May-07 03:53 PM
from the child benefit section of the HMRC site -
'From 1 June 2007 intermediaries such as Citizens Advice can be authorised to act on behalf of a client in both tax credits and Child Benefit. To simplify the process a form TC689 can be used.
For Child Benefit only, the existing processes allowing a third party to represent a customer where written authorisation is given, usually in the form of a letter or where the customer gives permission by telephone, continues.'

Yes it's for one or the other or both. I couldn't believe it when I actually got a letter from them this morning explaining the new form and with one attached.

I've scanned and e.mailed Shawn a copy of the letter I received about it so he can put it on site FYI. It won't be on any earlier than tomorrow though. My colleague's just pointed out there's no identification code (TC689) on the new form so just hope some TCO staff don't get awkward.

The HMRC letter doesn't give the fax numbers. I know the one for tax credits. Is the same one used for child benefit, or is there a different one? If so, does anyone know it please?
