Voluntary/permitted work - backdated payments Fri 01-Apr-05 02:27 PM
Has anyone come across claimant receiving backdated lump sum payment for attending meetings, and how that affected their IB? I've never come across, and neither has our local DWP - they don't know how they'd treat such a payment and say they would have to "send it off for specialist advice"!

I had a client who received a lump sum payment for therapeutic work done. DWP treated this as a capital payment. The payment was made as a 'reward' for the work he had done as he had not been paid a weekly wage.

Thanks - that's helpful Will see if anyone else around the country comes back with anything else, and then "suggest" to our local DWP that they do this!

You might also be able to argue that the lump sum is 'averaged' over the pay period (from when the meetings began to when the lump sum was paid). Judy Scott
