Inappropriate comments at a Tribunal?!!
Tue 15-Nov-05 08:04 AM

Something said yesterday, at a DLA Tribunal, has caused my colleagues much amusement - so "we" are sharing it with you all and asking for your contributions. First, I'll create the scene for you:----
Client has moderate to severe mental health problems, which express in severe anxiety and mood swings. Has an "unkempt" appearance, and does look a bit "wild & wolly". Attended with Support Worker from Not for Profit sector agency, his current girlfriend and - of course - me, the representative (so we out numbered the panel!).
Whilst subject to questions from the medically-qualified panel member, who - to be fair - was trying to be helpful, this question was fired off from same:
"I don't wish to appear rude, but is your hair style through choice?" ! Classic. Anyone better that? - and "Does my bum look big in this?" has already been suggested, thank you!

A few months ago I was at a DLA tribunal where whilst trying to clarify the client's personal care needs the chairman misfired by asking the client "Does you wife do anything to you in the shower?" I had to feel for him, because he realised what he'd said before he had even finished the sentance, and swiftly followed up with "Sorry, I'll re-phrase that..." Fortunately I think the couple would have seen the funny side, and the apeal was allowed.

Shawn will probably censor this one, but I'll try anyway. Whilst working in the wild valleys of Merthyr, many moons ago, a client once advised a Tribunal that her "medical condition" was - a cute vagina, to which she was corrected, No, it's acute ANGINA ..........
