Child Tax Credit for children aged over 18 and in full time education
Thu 05-May-05 11:03 AM

I am currently dealing with a client who has 3 children, her eldest daughter was 18 in January 2005, she received CTC for all three dependent children during 2004/2005 and her 18 year old daughter is in Full time education.
Daughter has a disability and now receives DLA High care & mobility (Since January 2005).

Mother receives Child Benefit for Daughter as she is still in Full time education.
They now have a renewal form for CTC.

Question is will mother still receive CTC for her eldest daughter, and for how long? Also if so should the daughter be advised to claim an EMAS to support her self as she is now an adult?

If any one out there can help I would appreciate it!

Regards

Definition of a young person for tax credit purposes is the same as for child benefit. So while the young person is aged under 19 and in full-time non-advanced education CTC will continue to be paid. If the young person ends full-time non-advanced education at the end of this school year (ie June) then CTC is still payable until the end of August. The young person can certainly apply for an EMA, but it will depend on household income how much, if anything is payable.
