work permit holder and recourse to public funds ?
Thu 13-Sep-07 03:04 PM

howdoooooooooooo

and almost the weekend chaps and chapettes, hoorah !

anyway, back to reality ... tum tee tum ...

have a cl. who entered uk on a work permit, which means she can be in uk working as a nurse for 5 years.
i'm looking at their rights to have recourse to public funds, incl. c.b, but it would appear they do not have any right to caim w.t.c / c.t.c, h.b / c.t.b etc.

am i missing anything, and can a person who is in the uk on a work permit claim public funds in any circumstances ?

thanx all.

She'll have a "no recourse" condiiton attached to her leave HOWEVER I think she might have the right to apply for indefinite leave to remain after 4 years in the UK and then she doesn't need a WP and can generally claim benefits. Not a good idea to try first or she could have difficulty getting WP renewed or any other change of status.

But I could be wrong - anyone else out there any ideas?
