Income used in calculation
Wed 31-Jan-07 09:11 AM

Hi all

Some of you are probably rolling your eyes at this simple question but for some reason I just don't know.....

I have a tenant who up to June last year was earning £30,000. From June her earning reduced to £15,000. The tenant has recently split from her partner and now needs to make a claim for tax credits. Is there anyway we can ask for a calculation based on the lower earnings?

thanks for any help or advice you can give....

Your client should complete a tax credit claim form on which she will state last years earnings of £30,000 in the appropriate box. As soon as the claim is processed (your client will know it is processed because a payment will be made into her account and she will receive a tax credit award notice) your client can ring the public helpline number 0845 300 3900 and provide an estimated income for the current tax year. The tax credit award will then be recalculated using the estimated income amount and a new award notice will be issued showing the new entitlement figure. Your client should be careful not to underestimate current year earnings or she may get overpaid.
