Codes
Thu 24-Feb-05 01:16 PM

Has anyone cracked the codes that appear on form DBD600, included with DLA/AA submissions?

No idea, really.

Is an "M50" not some sort of automatic weapon?

I have seen the use of these codes critisized in a Comm. d/n (number conveniently forgotten).

If it makes a difference to a particular case (ie if you need to see the reasoning behind an earlier decision in order to mount a case that there is a ground to allow it to be revised/superseded) then you could always ask for a direction that the Sec of State provides an explanation for the code (or a cryptoanalyst could be summonsed to appear at the hearing?). Mind you, if the Sec of State did tell you what the codes meant then he would probably have to kill you or ask you to sign the official secrets act or something.....

Sorry.... Friday feeling.

I am off to an appeal to argue about the 1958 Yugoslavia agreement....
...then the weekend.

Martin

If you're lucky enough to have a presenting officer attending they can explain the codes used. I have asked a friendly one for a copy of them but it was more than his job was worth etc. etc.etc........

Try asking for them using the Freedom of Information Act.

Our organisation has 'come into possession' of some codes. From an unknown source. Not all of them, granted, and possibly not even up to date, but they seem to serve.

Can see no reason why this information should not be shared on rightsnet.

Is there a particular code you were trying to work out?

I once got sent a list Social Security abbreviations sent to me by accident.
It is from 2001 and probably out of date but if Rights Net would like to display it I'll happily fax it to them.

There are some nice abbreviations though

PA - Put away

RNG - Random Number Generator (why do they need this??? - see if you're entitled?)

SSTI - Social Security technical instructions

TUPE - Trade Union Side

UTP - Unshielded Twisted Pair (!)

TYP MAN - Typing Manager

CATS - Code Amendment Tracking System

CWL - Capable within limits

do you have decision codes, reason codes and evidence codes?
it would be interesting to see what they mean even if they are a bit out of date, thanks
Jim

sadly the codes I have are very dull and basically relate to administrative procedure.

It would be worth obtaing the full codes via freedom of Information.

i'm looking at a DBD43 - Decision and Data Processing record - is this the same thing? a valid decision has to be made in writing, but beyond that, it's significance in an appeal is miniscule.

the code numbers are bulk processing features - and determine what pre-formatted blurb ends up on the decision notice (and the computer system. mistakes no doubt happen, and i had one client who's DLA stopped because of the entry of a wrong code number - but it easily identified as a 'keystroke' error and rectified. but it would be rare for this data to be an issue in an appeal, i would guess.

Occasionally it helps a tribunal understand a previous award, when the Decision Maker hasn't made it obvious and it's not really explained by the paperwork. Eg C21 Middle Care - Day supervision.
