Treatment of WTC and CB as income
Tue 06-Jan-09 04:18 PM

I seem to remember seeing something saying that from April 09 (?) WTC will be ignored as income in calculating entitlement to HB & CTB. Does anyone know if that's correct please?

Also I think CB is to be ignored as income for HB & CTB. Is this right, & is it from January or April?

I'm dimly aware of something on the latter lines, but can't recall whether it was only in the pre-budget statement, the Queen's speech or what. I am not aware of any plans to disregard WTC: that would be to treat it differently from the other MTBs, and the DWP is supposed to be heavily into simplification at the minute. In fact I think the CB idea was to align it with tax credits, so you could call that one simplification.

The increase in Child Benefit from January can be ignored for HB & CTB purposes until April. Child Benefit will then be ignored completely for HB & CTB purposes from October 2009.

Not heard anything about disregarding WTC.
