The "ESA Customer Journey"
Mon 31-Mar-08 03:50 PM

We had an invite to a JC+ liaison event a couple of weeks ago. Just received a copy of their PowerPoint presentation, which thanks to Shawn you can view at

What is scary about that is that even if all goes well it seems that the 'customer' gets their ESA payment decision 45 days into the process. I know that in reality that is the case anyway but to actually have a delay like that as an publicised fact is awesome. That's a good proportion of my 'customers' dead before they get any money (another treasury saving initiative?).

This particular presentation seems to have been doing the rounds - we first saw it in Dec/Jan and it surfaced again at our local liaison meeting in March - you'll notice that the Pathways to work data is some two years old, and if those are the sort of percentages that they are looking forward to, then it's going to be an expensive exercise in optimism...getting people off benefit and into work is one thing, but is it sustainable, is it financially viable (after looking at transport costs, childminding costs etc) .......
