Phoned Tax Credits on behalf of a cl. Was told that the system dealing with her claim had "broken down" and although her claim appeared to be "closed down" on the computer it was, in fact, being paid clerically. Tax Credits and Child Tax Credits were being paid 4 weekly by giro despite the fact that she ceased work and the Tax Credits Office were informed of this both by the cl and JCP who informed them she was on IS.
There is, apparently, no procedure for paying clerically in Tax Credit world, so although they KNOW it's happening they can't contact those paying clerically to let them know that they are overpaying the cl. Even walking into the local Tax Office wont help because they don't have a way of contacting those doing the clerical payments. So what do I do? Their advice? Inform cl that she is being overpaid WTC and to be prepared to pay the monies back in full when the clerical section realise their mistake!!!!
