Consultation on housing benefit backdating rules
Tue 31-Mar-09 02:17 PM

Hi guys,

I am sure most of you will know, but there is a consultation excersize to look again at the cutting of backdating rules in HB/CTB from 52 weeks to 3 months for the over 60s, and from 52 weeks to 6 months for the under sixties.

This is our chance to submit evidence to show that this was the wrong decision. The DWP consultation web page invites submissions, and we can send multiple case studies. Obviously, if you feel it has been a positive move then that can be expressed also.

I hope you will all agree that if a claimant requires a backdated payment, they will happily try to furnish evidence to support "good cause". If they dont wish to disclose information, they are perfectly within their rights to forgo any backdate.

This could be our change to influence a rashly made change of rules.
