Publicity Register
Mon 04-Oct-04 05:36 AM

I have recently found out that the Cat 1, cataloguing the leaflets and literature available from the Publicity Register for the DWP/Vets Agency/DCD etc, plus a number of the leaflets themselves, have recently been given on-line only status by the Publicity Register.
It seems to me that this is very much not in the customer interest and the action will marginilise many people in vulnerable groups who do not have ready access to the internet.
One of the leaflets now only available on line is the GL12 - What to do when going into hospital - I have a vision of a queue of ambulances outside the local library waiting for people to log-on and find out how their benefits will be affected by their emergency admission!
Housing 21 is a specialist provider of sheltered housing for older people and all the managers of our housing complexes are registered with the PR so that they can obtain written information to be available on site for our residents. They do not have internet access and as there are around 370 housing units throughout the country it is not practical for us to set up our own distribution process for those leaflets that are still available in hard copy.
I have been advised by the PR distribution centre to contact the PR direct and ask what other arrangements have been made for those who do not have internet access, I have done this but to date have received no reply.
Has anyone else got further with this yet...........

we may say - access is an 'equality' issue.

i expect the new equality commission will be able to make some meaningful reforms to public services.

there! i said that with a straight face!
